Onboarding New HR Professionals
Most companies and organizations are bad at onboarding their employees. Onboarding is not to be confused with orientation. Orientation is an event that may last a day or last up to three days. The point of orientation is to simply introduce new employees to the organization.
The Difference
Orientations usually involves some key policies, administrative tasks, and providing an awareness of how work gets done, and an introduction to the company's culture.
Onboarding is a process. It is a small learning program where a person acclimates to the work they will be performing, the people, processes, and the culture of the organization.
Make the Investment
Companies tend to make the investment in orientations and almost all companies have them. But what they lack is a strong onboarding process, not just for their employees but for HR. Some employees get it right off the back, while others need some guidance.
To accelerate the effectiveness and knowledge of new HR professionals a sound and comprehensive onboarding experience should be designed and given to them.
A Small But Helpful Tool
In order to successfully onboard new members of HR, I recommend creating a punchlist or a checklist. This is a guide that will help you and them ensure that they are learning and know the things they need to know to be most successful.
I have added some content already. But feel free to design and make it your own. I hope you find it helpful and please share what you think should be on the list for a HR professional joining a new organization.
